We're committed to reducing waste. While you decide what to keep, we'll figure out what to do with the rest.

Specificity of donations. Did you know that a huge amount of donations end up in landfills? That's why at Make Space, we sort your gently used items and send them to where they have the best chance of finding a home. Some of our favorite local orgs for niche items include: BANANAS, East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Tech Exchange, Friends of the Oakland Library, and the Donna Spring Animal Shelter. We also love taking advantage of bigger nonprofits like Wardrobe for Opportunity and Support the Girls.

Expert Recycling. For items that aren't in donate-able condition, we'll try our best to find a way to recycle them. Old undies and socks? The North Face does textile recycling. E-waste? We'll take it where it needs to go. Apparently you can't recycle broken ceramics, but you can list them on Craigslist in case an artist wants to make a multi-media piece! (Okay, that might not work, but the free section of Craigslist is one of our favorite ways of helping random items find their forever homes.)
